Valentine’s Day falls on February 14 every year. We do know that on this day, people express their love and affection by exchanging flowers, presents and more with their loved ones in the name of Saint Valentine. But do you know that Valentine's Day has its roots in both Christian and ancient Roman customs, and the similarities made some historians believe that the day has origins in the Roman festival of Lupercalia, that is celebrated with fertility rites and a ritual which men and women were paired off by lottery?
However, Pope Gelasius I abolished this ritual and declared February 14 St Valentine’s Day, adding this feast day to the Catholic Calendar of Saints. People begin to express their admiration on this day and the practice of sending love messages to convey their feelings to their loved ones. Now, Valentine’s Day is celebrated in most countries. Different countries have different cultures, and people have developed their own traditions for this day.
There are some fun things to do for Valentine’s Day. If you are still wondering what to do on the day, here are some few tips that could inspire you on how to celebrate the day of love in any way you want.

A nice dinner doesn’t necessarily need to be expensive. Make sure the food is at least “edible”. Put some effort in dressing. It doesn’t have to be your wedding shirt, but make sure it suits the occasion. Imagine if you are wearing it for a fine dining, you’ll absolutely nail it.
- Recreate your first date
Remember what you do on your first date? One of the simplest ways to remember the excitement of your relationship at the early stages is to relive the initial moments. The lame jokes, giggles and stealing glances that became your favourite place in mind.
- Watch a movie
If you are shy or not good at planning, watching movie is also one of the easiest dates to ask for. Choose a movie that will make both of you comfortable. There are plenty of romance movies you can enjoy, romantic dramas, action romance, fantasy romance, romantic comedies (rom-coms) and more.
- Stargazing
Stargazing is a wonderful idea for a Valentine’s date. It is romantic and it doesn’t have to be a big production. But it requires some time to make some plannings on choosing the right and comfortable spot and maybe some food. Try to avoid telescope if you don’t know how to use it. If possible, do some research on what you will be expecting to see for a better experience.
Remember, it’s wise to always have a back-up plan (plan B) to help respond effectively in case your initial plan doesn’t work. Also, it is better to show up early as it indicates you really care about the date. Hope everything goes well for your Valentine’s date!
